A-B Profiles
Everyone thinks that they are putting their best foot forward with their dating app profile. But we’ve all wondered if it really is the best we could do. How is that joke landing? Is it charming and witty or corny and used by too many people? If you’ve asked friends for advice, are they being nice? How representative is their perspective?
With our patent-pending A-B profile system, you set up two profiles which are as similar, or different as you want. Other users only see one profile at a time, picking profiles like any other dating app.
We record and collect a variety of data-points, which we return to you as “insights.” These are designed to give you the information needed to optimize your profile and answer all the questions you have about how your profile is being received by the folks you are interested in attracting.
Insights
What good is the A-B profile without telling you how it performs? Our insights provide 15 different types of analysis on your profile for you to review. We provide them in three tiers:
Our Basic Insights are free and always available:
Preferred Profile: How the two A-B profiles compare along a variety of metrics such as which one received more likes, whether photos or prompts were liked more, how long users look at the profile, and a host of other metrics.
Matches Re-Viewed: How many times matches look at your profile after matching;
Your Thumbs Up Rating: How you are received by your dates.
Premium Insights tell you things like how long people look at individual photos and prompts (and what they do afterwards); your match to chat to phone rate; your likes to views rate over time; not to mention giving you more insights into the Basic insights. Premium features can be accessed as a subscription or bought to be accessed for a limited time.
Premium Plus Insights are the six juiciest features we offer: which photos and prompts other users were looking at when they disliked your profile, and the last time your matches were active. Temporary access to those three features can be bought by Basic users and Premium subscribers. There are three secret insights you only get to learn about once you’ve subscribed to Premium Plus.
Help Function
Aside from the Insights, we also give you the option of offering targeted feedback to other users. Feeling generous and have a tip for someone else about a specific part of their profile? Long-hold the dislike button to send them a ‘help’ message. Help messages consist of a range of pre-written prompts and will be sent anonymously.
Your Data is Your Data
“If you’re not sure what’s being sold, you’re the product.” How do most dating apps make money? It’s not from their subscriptions. At Oyster, we don’t pretend that we don’t collect your data and we don’t pretend like we don’t make money, but we take your data, package it in a way you can understand, and provide it back to you, so that you are empowered to put your best foot forward.
Thumbs Up System

Oh, yeah, sorry, going out to dinner with another single person sounds like a fun way to spend an evening if they aren’t weird or crazy. We allow you to give fun dates a “Thumbs Up” to let other people they are worth getting drinks or coffee with. No written reviews, and no thumbs downs, so there isn’t any negativity (you can take a thumbs up back though). That way you can tell other people that, even if someone isn’t right for you, they ought to be given a shot.
Full Functionality
Modern dating apps don’t have much to offer aside from their network effects. As a result, the only thing they can sell you is access to basic filters or more swipes. Why do you only get so many swipes or likes a day? Why can you only filter by some characteristics but not others? Because they have nothing else to sell you. We don’t artificially restrain the filters you can apply or messages you can send. We want to make your dating app experience the best it can be.
